Challenge, recover and stop | Coaching session on defending skills

Join our coach Danny as he delivers Week Four of our six-week session programme — challenge, recover and stop — focusing on how players can delay, deny, and dictate play in defensive moments, recover quickly, and challenge effectively to win the ball back. Building on the previous weeks of pressing and covering as a unit, this session helps players refine their 1v1 defending, recovery runs, and deceleration skills — learning how to control space, dictate play, and make decisive challenges. Players are encouraged to understand defensive timing, body shape, and communication while working both individually and as part of a defensive team. This session is part of the six week session programme: Defending to stop goals – pressing, covering and balancing. Week four challenges players to combine their defending skills with tactical awareness — making better defensive decisions under pressure and reacting effectively in realistic match scenarios.
